View Full Version : Are the older Serotta frames chromed?

I recently purchased a Serotta Davis Phinney and it has a few paint chips with what I thought was rust underneath. After cleaning up the rust, I think I see chrome instead of raw steel. Are the frames chromed before paint - partially chromed maybe? I have an 80s Fuji that is entirely chromed under the paint. It makes the rust problem almost nil. Please tell me it's true.

I think some of the early models were or could be.

From my research I agree with the above. My '86 Nova Special X doesn't appear to be chromed.

Thanks for the replies. I think I jumped the gun because the steel appeared so shiny. Definitely no chrome under the paint. Good thing they are small paint chips.
I love this bike more every time I ride it. Now I'm getting the bug to try out a new Serotta.
