Would a 10-speed road or MTB chain work on a 9-speed drivetrain for my mountain bike? Thanks

9 speed cogs are thicker, but it still might work OK. 10 speed chain costs more, is probably not quite as strong, so I would question why you'd want to do it.

Nope, and they are more expensive(10s).

I've done it without issue. (7801 chain with a 7700 cassette)
As to why...the 7801 was >$20.

Just questioning it because I have about four 10 speed chains laying around with minimal miles. Just checking options since I bušed the 9 speed chain trying to get the quick link off

Yes, it fits and works. I just finished riding a bike with a 10 speed chain that has an LX drivetrain on a touring bike. But it does not last as long.
