View Full Version : Current favorite ride?

Currently my favorite ride is an oldie but goodie, Jeff Richman cross breed (for lack of a better name).
Saw this listed on CL a few years ago and since I love building up bikes, Frankenbikes in particular, this looked like something I could work with.
Cyclocross type frame with tight race geo. I was told jeffry richman built this bike for himself to be ridden around point reyes trails with 28c file tread tires.

I was really liked the looks of A.Stump rear dropouts.
http://i43.tinypic.com/241qk5x.jpg

Found out 28c is the largest tires I could fit (panaracer t-serv or passela's) worked the best and more than enough tire for what I'll be using it for which is the mean streets of San Francisco and fire road type trails found here and in Marin headlands.
Anyway turned out to be a great riding agile frame, far exceeding my expectations. It has become the first bike I grab to head out with no clear destination in mind.
After a light sanding and rattle can spray.

So the 33 readers of this thread thus far don't have a favorite ride? Well I'll be....

You're not afraid of a gust of wind tipping that bike over into the bay?

My current favorite ride is the bike I'm riding right now, whatever that may be.

For the past several months, I've been torn between my DeSalvo and my Ottrott, so I go back and forth between the two. The more I ride the DeSalvo, the more surprised I am that Mike's bikes don't get even more love and that he sells them for such reasonable prices. And the more I ride the Ottrott, the more surprised I am that they sell for $1200-$1500 these days.

Super calm day (yesterday), pedal was positioned against curb with front wheel facing curb so it couldn't move and served at a kick stand. Having said I took pic as fast as possible then fetched bike quickly.

I'm grabbing my Peg Duende lately... super stiff on a climb and yet a nice smooth ride, and fits me very, very well.

Well, that is when winter leaves us again. Currently snowing, 20-25 mph North wind, and somewhere around 20 degrees. :crap:

... but I've even been known to ride it on the rollers in the garage... :D

I love my Zank, but lately I've been hitting more off-road on the Sawyer. Bombing the quiet forests free of cars and sandy saltly roads is nice for a change.

Me, I just now got all the bugs worked out on my 1/2 cross &1/2 touring Davidson. It took forever but it seems to fit the bill.

38's with fenders and very long chain stays.

Sorry no pics yet!

@ Sam, I really like that bike!

that's a cool bike bobswire!

I can't see all the photos of it from work, but I can see some (not sure why that is). Will investigate it further tonight or this weekend.

Right now my bikes are in a state of flux/transition in terms of setup/configuration - so I'm not sure what my favorite is right now.

My current favorite - and the only bike I've had since 2004 - is my Kirk road bike with the Terraplane stays and Campy Record 10 components. I'm constantly amazed at the number of people here who have multiple bikes, and I have occasionally thought about getting another. But then I ride my Kirk - and think about convincing the missus that I "need" another bike - and the thought goes away....

Digression - Living in Minnesota and having a skinny-tire road bike as my only ride, I'm used to logging 0 miles throughout all of January and February. With this year's lack of snow and mild temps, I'm already well past the 500-mile mark. Too cold today (current wind chill -3) and out of town tomorrow, but it looks like I might get out again as soon as Sunday (forecast 30 and sunny).

That's perfection in every way and it cannot be improved upon. There is no longer any reason for anybody to ever post another picture of a bicycle on the interweb machine ever again. its done, goodnight, lets all go home.

it may sound silly, but this cheapo alu frame with a Serotta fork rides fantastically. i try and ride fixed most of the off season to maximize every minute i'm on the bike. really been enjoying this one lately. today was a great day here in NJ too.

Kidding aside, that bike makes me feel faint.

My Carl Strong #1: Columbus life steel, Chorus 10sp. Nothing wrong with #s 2, 3, and 4 either. (OK, begs the question, so: 2-same as 1 but with S&S couplers, 3-light tourer with disk brakes, fenders, 4-all arounder with cyclocross build).

People will hate me for saying it but my "current" favorite ride is my Carbon frame. It's a 2007 Scattante Elite model from Performance. I bought it new, then it became my winter ride outfitted with fenders and all, still sporting a triple Shimano group.
All my other bikes are Campy and I ended up not riding this one for a couple years so i ripped off the group, including wheels, bought a Campy Centaur double group, put some American Classic Sprint 350 wheels on it and started riding it. It's set up as my climbing bike with a 29 cassette in back. Rides great I have to say, the equal of my old trek Madone of 3 years ago at a fraction of the price.
To be fair, all the steeds in my stable get ridden but since this is the newest incarnation on this frame, it is currently my favorite. I have to say, there is nothing wrong with the way it rides at all.
I am now "all Campy, all the time". it's a lot easier in the shop now.

Yes I did and love it, it's just that being "old" (skool) I prefer riding in baggy knickers and having a huge bag attached to my bikes and dat don't cut it with CF frame.

This is one of my favorite destinations in the City, Fort Mason. All my bikes end up here at one time or another. If you're are ever in my neighborhood give a holler and I'll give you a tour avoiding as much traffic as possible to some neat places to visit by bike.

I have the same frame as bobswire. Had it for 3 years. I have 2 bikes, a carbon rain bike and the dry bike. Since I moved to San Diego 2 years ago, the rain bike rarely gets ridden.

These are a great value. Definite keeper.

Yes. QS3, newest upgrade by Pedal Force, UD carbon.
I ended up with this one by chance from a group buy offer. They didn't have my size in the frame I was getting in the group buy offer but this one had just come into their possession in my size and I was offered it instead.

Looking at their charts the geo and sizing is very different from some of their other frames. Interesting.

2009 S-Works Roubaix. I am surprised it landed in first place after all the other fine bikes in the stable over the last 10 years. It sits in the garage next to a custom Steve Rex and a custom coupled Curtlo. The Rex is a work of art, the Curtlo has a Brentwood Orange powder job I love and rides great too. But the Roubaix is the go to for hilly club rides I do most.
