Anyone ever ride a SOMA Fabrications bike? Curious about feed back, especially the cross bike.

I am thinking of something for riding trail, attaching a trailer to take the little one around through the park, some riding on the canal towpath, and possible a cross race or two in the fall, but not much (if any) serious racing. The brand name holds a certain nerdy allure for me, so I was curious what they were like.

Sold some. Nicely made, better tubing(Tange) than Surly, IMHO. Fewer models but overall, nice, well made, not expensive.

I had a Double Cross and now a Mini Velo, which is a blast to ride.

Like Peter said, they have better tubing than the comparable Surly. A little more lively feel than the Cross Check. Decent quality: on par with my Surlys.

I think a DC would suit your purposes just fine. If I had to buy another I'd get the disk brake DC.

I've built up a few for friends and sell, really like them. Good bang for the buck.

I've had a few and loved each of them. They really can't be beat for the price.

I'll let you know after this weekend!

I'm currently building up my new (to me) 09 Double Cross DC and just got in the final parts to finish the build today. Welds / overall build quality look very good for the pricepoint.

I'm switching out the Record shifters for Chorus alloy, Avid BB7 brakes came in the mail yesterday, still hoping for a Deore XT rd. Will have rack and fenders and be my commuter and hopefully overnight light(ish) tourer.

Here is how it sits now (iphone picures only for now... :crap: )

Good feedback...

I had a cross check for a while and that 4130 feels bombproof.. which also means it loses a little regarding the ride. I had a Davidson with Tange Prestige that rode much nicer.

I am considering the Soma Saga with Tange... and the 2012 now will have a 700c option for the 54cm... and will be available in British Racing Green.

good choice on the BB7's... I know you were wanting to keep the price down, but you'll infinitely happier with the 7's...

nice looking bike!

I've had a Double Cross for about 4 years. They are nice bikes maybe best bang for the buck out there. As others have said, better tubing than Surly and some others comparably priced. I've had that thing on some pretty gnarly single track too, but mostly just use it for more leisurely rides and gravel roads.

Soma Delancey fixie/single speed here. Nice bike. Tange Prestige tubing for the frame , Tange Infinity tubing for the fork. Ride and handling is very predictable. One of the main reasons I purchased it was that its geometry very closely resembles my Serotta CSi. Main difference that I had to get used to is the BB is approx. 1.5 cm higher than the CSi, so the center of gravity is a bit different.

I bought the frame and fork new for under $600, as I recall.

I've got a Saga. The frame was very well thought out. I like the taller, sturdy head tube for touring, The welds are very nicely done, and the braze-ons are very sturdy. I'm a big fan of Soma for the money. Mine is a great bike.

Somewhat off topic, but my CIII is sporting a Soma Townsend seat bag.
60/40 hemp/cotton blend. It's the best seat bag I've used.

I had the soma double cross and it was a good bike to ride. I did find the head tube a little too tall for me. My propad's shorter head tube and lower bottom bracket worked better for me.

Very nice rig but how did that seatpost and stem end up on there? They are worth more than the frame.

A friend of mine had a Soma Smoothie. I rode it a few times and think its a pretty nice riding frame at a bargain price. Another guy I know has the Soma 26" wheeled mountain bike (forgot the name) and loves it.

Blem items, and old designs at that. Helps to know an ex-Moots employee.

Everybody always mentions the stem and seatpost. They're just jealous.

Built a soma double cross as a commuter for a friend and he loves it. Great frames and you can do a bunch with them. Also, the pearl white paint job with the soma lugged crown fork looks GREAT.

I'd buy another one and I don't hesitate to recommend the brand.

We've had a number of Somas over the years (and Soma components/accessories) and I agree with all of the above positive comments regarding quality, value, ride, etc.

This is the only Soma currently in the house - my wife's SS - but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if it fit the bill.

I don't know about their frames, but there drop bars are shaped nice and bullet proof.
