I was able to get out for a longer ride today through some local trails. Don't let the photos fool you, the trails are very rocky and a lot of it is hidden under all the leaves on the ground. Ran into a couple of, well, you'll see. :)

As you can see, there is no way to step across that stream. Since i can't take pictures while I'm airborne you'll just ave to trust me that I cleared it with inches to spare and continued up the trail. :D

I think Mr. Squirrel's friend Mr. Beaver needs to work on his bridge building skills. :p

One trail came out by this farm. Came by the cemetery on another.

The most important part of cycling is missing in this picture.....or is it?

You never know what you'll find out in the woods around here.

Woah that's cool. You must have had a great time and plenty of fresh air. In the meantime I was doing rollers inside watching Alien 3. I'm jealous ;)

And that's a nice bike. What is it? A Trek with a touch of atmo?

Thanks for sharing!

An ATMO approved Trek Sawyer. A fun bike.

I have to say I was having a blast, and became keenly aware that I didn't have to worry about cars at all. Quite refreshing. Though those giant pigs were making me a little nervous. ;)

They're in the 4th and 5th pictures, for those like me that were looking for deer or squirrels the first time through the pics.

Maybe it's time to call Lady Hoggers.

Sweet pictures. Makes me wish i were out riding!! Instead it just makes me feel lazy.

As soon as I get my 29er, I'm coming down for a visit (if you'll have me).

Nice pictures, but how is the bike perfectly clean throughout all of the shots?

Great pictures. You can certainly tell it's southern New England....thick young forest, stone walls, old grave stones, and pieces of rusty metal without any bullet holes.

How do you like the rigid fork?

William

Zach, it's just down the road from the Ramble farm so come on by.

It wasn't slop dirty but it was dirty. Doesn't really show up on the photos.

So far the rigid fork was fine ... though it wasn't 2700 miles. ;)

Great pics. Just wondering. What would have been different if you had been riding on your Zanc. I am working on getting a cross bike.

I could hit these trails on my Zanc, but the 29er feels more sure footed and nimble. Bigger tires and a little more upright position helps a lot on the rocky terrain.

ringc, where is your neck of the woods?

Mine too. I live within 90 minutes of you in CT (since it only takes a half hour to drive across RI...). Missed the Ramble last year, sadly. but if there's another I'll be there.

The guys I used to ride with called the rocks and leaf mixture (which is really tricky to ride) "baby head salad". Slippery stuff!

The Ramble 2012 is on the books.

Kirk, come visit and we can ride ....and then drink to each other legs!

"baby head salad"? Funny name, though I think I would call it "Crack head salad". Unpredictable and out to hurt you for no reason. ;)

Beautiful. It's what I miss about New England. It looks like you need more snow.

Hogs - we've got plenty here, even in town! Oh. and coyotes, too.

I think it's amazing how quickly formerly domestic hogs' offspring grow tusks in the wild.
