Do you use the velcro strap to make sure the pump doesn't go anywhere, or does it stay just fine by itself? The big tubes and tight clearances on my Caad9 make me a tad nervous that it isn't fitting as securely as it should.

I have one on my Bruce Gordon Rock'N'Road. I've always kept the strap on, on the fear that a pothole will jostle the pump into my spokes.

Have one on my Serotta. Don't use the strap. You need to get the right size for optimum spring expansion. It fell off two weeks ago, but I think I hadn't seated the handle quite right - it never fell off previously in two years of constant use.

For my 52 cm (53.5 c-c top tube) frame I got the Medium, which is good for 49-54 cm frames.. I believe this *should* be good, no? The large is for 54-59cm frames..

Edit: actually, looking at it, I might have been able to size up for my road bike -- no worries, though, def the right size for my cx bike (which was the intent..)

I use the strap just to make sure it remains where I want it, regardless of the road conditions.

I use them without a strap. I've never had it budge, but they are on the tight side, and I have good pegs.

Yes, that sounds right.

works good with no strap. the tubes and overall size of this beast is probably similar to your caad too.

Topeak pump fits well on all my frames, but I use the strap anyway for peace of mind.

Here it is on a CAAD 9 that I no longer own:

I recommend using the strap. I was on a descent going about 30mph when I hit a bump and my frame pump bounced out and went into the back wheel locking it up. I was lucky it was the back wheel because I was able to maintain but it was scary. Oh, both the pump and wheel were trashed.

I have a topeak that is painted to match and sized perfectly for my Vanilla, but it is wrapped up in foam and out away in the garage. Just me, but I like the way the bike looks without it. *IF* I did use it, I would utilize the velcro strap just for the added piece of mind. If water bottles can bounce out on a bumpy descent, so can a pump.

I always use a pump strap, even on my bikes that have pump pegs...and most of my bikes do.
