I have a S900 BB30 crankset a 130 bcd spider and 46-38 cyclocross chainrings. I know SRAM makes a 110 bcd compact version of this crank (S950?), and I'd like to convert mine to compact. The spider is a separate alloy piece that appears to be removable by undoing one bolt, but SRAM advises me as follows: "Spiders are not available for the S900; while the spiders are not molded into the arm, that is to keep the cost of the crank down (I know, it's not cheap, but it's cheaper than Red). Our engineers don't want customers to be removing and re installing those spider bolts."

I was wondering if anyone has converted this crankset to a different spider, and if so, were there any issues that came up.

Well since they make both compact and standard size you should be able to order at the very least a compact ring and spider already put together.

it's very easy to change yourself, you just need a t25 torx to remove the 3 small bolts on the driveside spindle to change the rings.
