View Full Version : What is this Campy part?

So I was removing the older Campy Record 10 shifter and accidently loosened the clamp too much. While I was fumbling with the clamp parts another part also dropped out of the shifter.
It is small but looks important. (Pic below)
Does anyone know what it is and how I reassemble it? Or does it need to go to the shop?
Thanks.
Dan

Look at the other shifter (if you have it) and see if you can see that part inside. Maybe it's common to both shifters and that'll tell you where it belongs...maybe. Just a thought. Jeff N.

Does Campy have exploded-view drawings available online? I know Shimano does.

I have them on disc. I don't recognize that part, even after looking at the exploded view.

Looks to me like a push-button sort of thingy, with "keepers" on the sides to prevent it from coming out, and the spring to push back.

Not a Campy shifter part.

Dan, the part I PM'd you about is at the far upper RH corner of the first pic. It fits into the lower part of the body just below the clamp.

"Thingy" is. The rest is layman's talk. ;)

My fave was always "the Jesus pin/bolt/spring."

While we're on the subject of Ergopower... how far up can a 1995 Record Ergo 8 speed brifter be converted? In the exploded view of the 2000 Ergopower, it shows the indexer for 8, 9, & 10 speed are interchangeable.

In the 2001 spare parts catalogue, there's a section at the end with tables giving cross compatibility, and seems to suggest that even the old-style ergopower (with a pointed, or conical, body above the brake-lever) is compatible with the 9/10 speed rear derailleurs.

It almost seems like I could slip a 10-speed indexer on my shiny alloy 8-speed ergos and have the best of both worlds.

Color me confused.

Looks like the little push buttons that came with the Ergo Brain set up.

I wouldn't say "looks like." I would say it is.

Good find.

I'm duly impressed.

I might play in next week's Campy Trivia Quiz.

I've picked up a few things in my short time on this thing we call Earth :).

Thanks all.
I always get my dumb questions answered here. And almost never get ridiculed for my lack of mechanical knowledge/ability.
So it looks like i can toss the wee part. Unless someone needs it. Let me know.

its the button for the Ergo Brain computer - the rubber hoods have a few small "buttons" molded into them under which the part in question goes - typically the ergos dont have these installed unless they were set-up for Ergo Brain use. The computer comes with the buttons which are installed when setting up the computer.

it might be worth noting that a "thingy" is also a "chinga" or "chingadera"

...obviously no other helpful information here
