I was calling around tonight trying to find a pair of Lake MXZ302 shoes (http://www.lakecycling.com/images/shoe-with-tech/mxz302.jpg). A woman at a LBS told me that of the dozen or so stores they have in the Minneapolis area (Erik's Bike) they only have one pair and that Lake is out of business. Does anybody know anything about this?

It seems to make sense because of all the places I tried (and I tried many) there is a pitiful supply of their shoes to be found and definitely not in a size 46.

I hope she was wrong but I'm sort of thinking that she may be right.

I see them selling for 75% off sometimes on Bonktown, so you might be right?

Lake's US distributor is out of business and sales are plummeting.

Does anyone know of a comparable alternative?

"Does anyone know of a comparable alternative?"

Start searching the net and see what you can find. There really isn't any bike shoe in the same league for cold weather riding. I have a friend who needs some for the Arrowhead 135 and couldn't locate any in the size he wants. He's going to use the Salomon Toundra with platform pedals instead.

Higher quality product anyway - as a Lake retailer, we had many issues with the quality of their shoes and made many trips to the shoe repair shop down the street.

That sidi is not very warm.

I have heard better things about the Gaerne. I have the Lakes and love them.

If this is true, isn't that a shame, that the company that makes what most folks say is the best winter road shoe can't find a way to stay in business?

I wish I had a pair. My winter Northwaves have never fit me very well.

I was told by one shop here in Minneapolis that they're expecting an order any day now but it's apparently being held up in customs. I hope it's not another situation similar to that where some of us experienced big delays with PBK earlier in the year.

But one thing is for sure...it's not as seamless as the owner of Stage-Race said it would be...

"He said the transition for dealers that used to stock Lake should be seamless. Stage-Race has 2011 inventory available for immediate shipping and Yakubowicz said he’s taking orders for 2012 shoes now. The 2012 line will begin shipping to dealers in March, he said. "

this is interesting because i did just get a great deal on a pair of lakes from real cyclist. i've seen them on sale quite a bit lately too.

for comparable shoes that also use the boa (or whatever you call it) cable lacing system, specialized line of shoes are very good. as with all shoes, try them on first, but i love my specialized shoes, and the fit seems very similar to me to the lakes i just got.
