just found out about this, evidently they converted a 400m raceway in nj into a velodrome. they claim they're going to start racing in march of '12. im suspect of the quoted banking number, but regardless, i'm always psyched to have any new track venue, as humble as the roots may be. they're an ATRA affiliated track, so hopefully it only grows from here.

Looks a lot like Marymoor. No way those banks are 33 as pictured. Maybe 15-20. I think Marymoor is a 400 oval with 25 degree banks?

Anyway, that is great! Should be a lot of fun. Track racing is a hoot.

Wall Stadium is a pretty famous old race track for Modifieds.

400m is a long lap - i thought 383m at Northbrook (north of Chicago) was long... always hated the races over 25 laps when i'd see stuff about Major Taylor in Indy (333m) having 10-15 lap races for my category pretty regularly.

the only times i ever won at the track was in match sprints or 5 lappers...

Sandy Eggo's 333m. Got used to it.

Then I went up to Encino. Talk about feeling like you're in a blender! I can only imagine what the Boulder track feels like!

Kissena, the nyc velodrome is also a 400.

Talking to the track organizer, sounds like car racing will happen on the weekends, and bikes race midweek. So things like a sprint lane probably won't be getting painted. Still not going to complain.

They'll order them for you. And based on 54's inventory I am sure they'll start stocking a few. Looks like fun, I work 5 minutes away from there.

Wife -"working late again?"

25x400 = 10 kms... Due the national track champion in junior 13-14 y/o in my country are 10 kms... the next tear 15-16 y/o are 15km... then junior 17-18 y/o are 30 km of total carnage. Cat-A adults was a nice 50 km with sprints each km and half or 2 km. cant remember that well... 333 olympic velodrome.

Back in the day the panams per points was like 30 or 50 km as well, cant remember when they changed it.

The nice about a long velodrome is that is almost like racing in the road, the wind is not everywhere so once u are gone from the group it makes your life easier if you have to keep a steady pace.

The smallest velodrome I raced was one in the coast of my country, 250 meters, 45 degrees bankings... nasty winds also because is located in the coast. That was one of me the most violent junior races i can remember, almost each round somebody was using the banking to leave the darn group, we did like 44 km/h average for the 30 km. I got 10th that year and I won 2 sprints, but the 1st 3 places got 3 turns over the group. Those velodromes are so small that if you are in good form u just go do a 1km TT and you catch the group from behind. Next year I was with the adults and was even worse.

The smallest i have been riding is the one in London, canada. 110 meters or so.

Agree thats a speedway track... those are like 15 degrees or so. Unless they are going to re do the curves?? Even the 410 meters in the chilean patagonia has a 33 degree banking and in those u can sprint just fine, in a speedway track you cant the bike tends to skip in the pavement joints and not even think in the pedals touching the pavement. For TT the speedway one works, for sprinters and other stuff that is too fast is kind'a risky but sure very fun.

Love track aswell.

this picture is a little more flattering to the actual banking angle. 33* seems reasonable with a second look.
