I am looking for a used steel bike, 59-60 cm ST c-c, around $500-600 for a complete bike. I have looked on eBay and RBR, but they are crapshoots. Is there anywhere else that I should be looking?

I just saw one ended which is far from a crapshoot.

It's EBay, but here is a good search tool: http://www.qbike.com/cgi-bin/list-road-bikes.cgi You can search by any or all of the criteria. I usually use just the size.

ebay is the place. You also need some patience, steel bikes come in waves.
Sometimes there's only one and other times you see 10-12 that would fit.

Good call. A nice Bob Jackson complete bike for $750 and a Kestrel 200 SC complete bike if I decided to try an all carbon bike.

... something new from Supergo. Their unfortunately-named "Scattante" line includes a $599 bike wth Shimano 105. The wheels won't be anything to write your Internet buddies about but you can always upgrade. Two work colleagues have purchased from them, one an Al/C mix with Ultegra 9 and the other a CFR, also with U9. I've ridden the CFR and it isn't a bad bike.

If you are patient, and you have some extra time in your hands, you'll be pleasantly surprised with e-bay. I picked up a 1993 Yellow/White RB1 about three months ago for $350 shipped! My go-fast Waterford 1200 is a $425 frame/fork from e-bay as well.

Again, no guarantees, but so far so good for me.

Check out "rockymountaincyclery" on eBay. I've conversed w/this guy via email about consigning some bikes for me. He is super-nice, and he carries some really cool used, steel bikes. Last I saw, he had a nice, lugged Rivendell that was painted by JB.

I would also recommend Ebay, but with a twist...

Peruse some of the international Ebay sites (www.ebay.de, www.ebay.co.uk, www.ebay.it)...

I'm in the process of buying a De Rosa Giro w/full Ultegra that has maybe a 100 miles on it. Saw it on Ebay's German site. Cost was about $750, and the seller was willing to ship to the U.S. So even with the terrible exchange rate, I got a pretty good deal.
