I just picked up a pair of 2009's on clearance for $350. When I opened the box, I was immediately put off by an ugly weld that joins the rim. These wheels are made in China. I have not seen welds on any other Mavic rims that I have owned. Are the rims/wheels no longer made in France?
I want to use these wheels on the road with 700X28 Gatorskins on my Concourse cross bike.

Are these wheels keepers?

thanks,
Lyle

One of guys in my group got a set with his Scott and has been pretty happy with them. His are black and I've never noticed the welds.

rims have to be welded to form a circle, nothing new.

they arent the best wheels out there, but they're solid, and should serve you well, i wouldnt worry about it.

i've got the lowest level, the equippes on my cross bike, and they've been very reliable, over all sorts of roads and trails.

they are machined from a giant block of aluminum!

the wheels are fine. ride them and be happy.

while you can pound on the 2009's for CX, training, dirt, they were on closeout because the 2010's with ISM shave 200g from the 2009's

Ugly yes, but thats the way it is

happy with mine...road, trails, jumping off curbs...and for 350 thats pretty good for a decent set of wheels...

My 2011's were made (or at least assembled) in Romania. Better they are welded than pinned. They're good to go.
