View Full Version : Paul Racer M brake adjustment and release...

I have a bike with Paul Racer M brakes. The bike had Tektro brake levers with a brake cable release feature (ala Campy levers) which worked fine with the Racers since I run the Racers tight and need that little bit of cable release to loosen the straddle cable.

I got the bright idea of installing Ultegra STI levers to replace the DT shifters... This does away with the cable release feature. If I continue to run the Racers close to the rim, I can't undo/attach the straddle cable without a little more cable release. If I run the brakes further from the rims, there is too much cable for the Ultegras to take up (the lever bottoms out on the drops).

Have any of you solved this sort of problem? I looked at Jagwire's inline cable adjusters, but they state the adjusters are not recommended for brakes. I think I'll buy a front cable hanger with a barrel adjuster... but still... that's a time-consuming way to loosen the cable to release the straddle cable.

Thanks in advance!
