My 8 speed campy record fd has no spring left. It just stays where it is. I am wondering what to do. will a 9/10 speed fd work? could I just get a new spring? is that a hard repair?

thanks in advance,
keith

It's more hassle to repair than replace unless you are one very creative and patient fella'. Go to the bike shop and pull some old front derailleur off a bike. All sorts of things work on the front. I make it a mission not to match front derailleurs to rears or to the group, just for fun (and likely because I have a box full of old junk). Or buy a 9 or 10, they work fine with 8 up front.

thanks for the advice. i bought a 10 speed chorus front and it should be here in a few days. though the group is all record, it's all metal and there is no mixing that carbon crap in with my lugged framed, steel forked, and quill stemmed serotta (or as my girlfriend calls it, neurotta).

thanks you for the prompt and excellent advice.
