Fold it. A puzzle game...

Free...

Hard as hell...

Give it a shot!

What is it? A 'game' where you 'fold' proteins... yep - you fold proteins. No need to have any chemistry background... The instructions will get you started. Why try it you ask? It is a challenge for starters... and you will be helping humanity. The data collected has already provided clues about the AIDS virus... and others. You will actually take real proteins and 'fold' them... and your solutions will help researchers to learn more about them.

Help cure a disease! Give it a shot!

:)

Winter is almost here... :crap:

That is cool.

Not surprised at all that you like it! We need to ride sometime...

Hard to do when you are on the west coast, and I am on the east... but I do now have a S&S bike... :hello:

Would you happen to know how this differs from Stanford's program (http://folding.stanford.edu/)?

Yes - Stanford's program uses your CPU when idle to crunch solutions. This program gives you 'puzzles' to work out. They are proteins that scientists are attempting to learn more about. Programs can only do so much... the human mind can still outperform a PC in many area's... think problem solving...

So they give you a protein molecule and let you manipulate it to gain 'points'. More points is the 'goal' of the game... but the real gem in this is that you can actually create 'new' proteins. These 'solutions' are then forwarded to the science community for further scrutiny... but it helps to have lots of people playing with these structures so the PhD's can focus on the solutions. Did I mention it is also fun?

Here is one of the big discoveries - cool stuff!

I work in drug discovery, I hope no one comes to my lab and asks me to make a protein folded by some dudes on the Serotta forum, I would most likely tell them to bugger off!

Even if they are custom fit, lugged proteins? :D

If that was the case I would put my best associate on it immediately!
