I have seen this in a few bikes already and just wonder if its a product that is or was in the market before.

Old steel bikes equipped with new brifters will get some rubbing in the head tube, some bikes I have seen (cant find now :/) in pictures have a metallic piece that is attached between the lower end of the front tube and the lower headset cup, at the sides have two "rings" where the cables pass through, so dont mess the front tube paint. Anybody knows what im talking about or seen them???

I would call it a cable guide for brifters...

My '95 Batavus Pro has one of these installed (was there when I got it from the NL)...don't know a source, would be easy enough to fab something though.

one of my bikes has stickers and tape on the areas the cables rub. cheap and ultra lightweight, but make your bike look like junk.

I put clear vinyl where the cables rub. Should've done it sooner, I'm missing some clearcoat, but it's invisible from more than 5 ft away. It's on the underside of my downtube as well.

I used this:

Neat. My latest set of Jagwire cables came with short black rubber cone-shaped tubie things that fit over the housing and prevent paint damage on the head tube.

That's pretty much like the one on my Bat...except mine is 1" of course.

Rubber might be better than the housing itself, but it is still rubbing your paint. Putting something over the paint, like clear tape, is a lot more effective.

I bought some really thick clear packing tape at Harbor Freight that is almost as thick as chainstay protectors. It pretty much disappears.

This will not stopp the rubbing. You have to place the protection on the stable piece i.e., the head tube. Rubber on the cables no matter how soft will wear the headtube coating, always. No if's and's or exceptions.Sorry but that's the way it is.Neat. Yeah, I ran those oval tube things, and it still wore through my clearcoat.

The headtube looks like a better idea.

This is what I use:

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/protectiveLeading.php

No sticky adhesive, stays on, easy to remove, almost invisible, very tough.

This is what I use. http://www.treefortbikes.com/product/333222343530/138/Lizard-Skins-Clear-Skin.html
Edges come rounded, perfect size, and it doesn't look crappy after a few months like the other clear tape I've tried before.
I do like the idea of that Origin8 thingy though. Anyone know how the cable fits into it? Do you use a standard ferrule?
Also, where--position-wise--is it installed? Over the crown race? Under the crown race? I guess it would have o be the latter, right?

Jagwire TubeTops come in black or white. They're cheap too. They clip on to the housing so there's no need to re-thread the cable, too.

Doubt u can put that in the crownrace at all, it needs to be fixed and not move. If you put in the crownrace under or above, it will move while steering. This thing goes between the lower headset cup and the headtube, the cup keeps it in place.

The on in the picture clearly u can take the side pieces out because are like clipped. No ferrules? why u might need them? Maybe u are thinking in a cable stop, this is not a cable stop but a cable guide, 2 different things.

Position between the ht and the lower cup makes sense.
I meant cable housing, not the cables. Seems like you need the housing to stop in those things right? Or else where do you end the housing?

No it doesnt stop, it pass through the holes, is a cable guide :D The cable and the housing pass through that thing, the purpose is make the housing do not touch the frame, thats all.
