Beaver-tail fenders (like the SKS X-tra Dry) are the quickest for on-off and keep your butt pretty dry. But they're ugly.

Clip-on fenders (like the SKS Raceblade, Planet Bike SpeedEz) take a little more fiddling, but start to protect your bike and butt at the same time.

But nothing beats full front and rear fenders. Once your butt stays dry, you'll start wishing your shins and feet stayed dry too.

If you have the clearance, embrace the fenders:

i get very angry when i get soaked, too.
i installed some honjo fenders on the terraplane for that purpose
but took them off at the beginning of the drought
when i was trying to pack the bike for hawaii in july.
they're now, sadly laying in the clutter at my cross country ski
waxing station in the basement.
...i know...i am pathetic!
for years i used the sks raceblades.
they are easy on and off
but i am so lazy i leave them off
since the rubber attachments have long since worn out!
...and that's the second unmanly thing i have said in this post...

i used to use something like this, where you shove the rear fender between your seatstays and it rests on top of the brake bridge. ruins the paint and all sorts of grit gets into the rear brake, but it works. not for big rain commutes, just puddle protection, because lets face it, ones your a little wet you may as well just commit and get soaked.

ive also been known to scavenge a long section of cardboard(box) to do the same thing. that and some plastic bags on the shoes!
