DA 9000 Cassettes - Still bad?

Do the 9000 version cassettes still have issues with creaking (and breaking)??

I never had a problem with either original or the updated version but quite a few horror stories out there on the original.so I assume the later double rivet carrier update cured 99% of the issues for the most part..

The latest ones had an aluminum carrier for the 3 biggest cogs and were great. The 9100 cassettes I've had appear to be the same as the last 9000 cassettes I had in the shop.

I haven't seen one break in a while but do ocasionally get creaky ones, esp on the ti parts. Typically switching the chain to a newer verson (901) fixes the issue and was the recommended fix by shimano a while back.

I didn't know this was a thing. I just broke mine a few weeks ago. 16t pulled right through the block and spins freely. Trash bin! Minimal Use as well.

Yeah, when I look at the various online sites, there are reviews from as late as 2016 complaining about issues. Think I'm gonna pass. Wanted a 12-28, but I guess I will go with my usual 11-28 Ultegra..

I would get the ultegra anyway, but i think you would be totally fine with an R9100.

Yup. I mostly do tri's now, and I need the 28 for a couple of courses, but I really don't need an 11, so would have preferred to have the extra gear in the middle (16?). Over the course of a 180km Ironman bike, if I'm on a section that is fast enough for an 11, I'm resting my legs instead of spinning, for the 42km run to follow...

Lol, well for the roughly $15 difference, I allow myself to buy the Ultegra cassette.... But I know it is really only like a 25 gram diff if that.

As for chains, I was never confident about dealing with the shimano pins, so I usually stick to the $25 KMC chains with the link. Knock on wood, several years using them, no broken chains and perfect shifting.

I couldn't agree more! I love the 12-28 11-speed cassette and wish it were available in Ultegra and 105 in addition to Dura Ace. I have almost no use for an 11 tooth cog. I'd much rather have the 16 tooth cog that you lose if you get an 11-28 cassette.

I never had any issues with the updated version of DA9000 cassettes, but I agree with the other folks. But, as far as bang for your buck, I think Ultegra is really the way to go.
