Sorry to tell you, it will have less soul than you were hoping. He kinda sounds like me when I was like 17 and realized no matter how much pot I smoked, I'd never get as high as I did that first time. Good luck to him, though

Don't give up, man. It's the journey not the destination and all that.

But he is a craftsman, he does it his way, and if you don't like it, look at/buy/ride something else. He's not going to change to be everything to everybody..good for him.

While these aren't the words I'd use, it did come across as a bit self-indulgent.

It's a blog...self reflective musings are what they're for. Glad he's building again (I didn't know he'd taken a break, but it's certainly understandable).

"After forty five years in the trade, a sense develops. A confidence. An arrogance."
He just now senses "an arrogance" — I sensed it awhile ago |

I enjoyed the post, and anyone who views their profession as a craft and not a job should appreciate it.

So he's struggling with the conscience of a professional.... when the magic become mundane. I wish him well.
[wow, there's some silly negativity in some comments]

Taking several months away from a work bench when people have popped for something you build and sell just isn't really cool unless there's a health element involved.
There are so many other great builders putting out work at this and a higher level of quality that don't have multi year wait lists it's not funny. |
