Packing heat while on tour/middle of nowhere

no....no talking about hand warmers....actually talking about carrying a pistol or some sort of armament if you were riding by yourself in a very remote area. Just sort of curious if anyone carries in case you're surprised by a hungry coyote or worse, a meth-head needing cash. If so, have you ever had to use it?

I have no issue doing that if I was planning on venturing into remote areas, but that just me and my choice...ymmv.

This is gonna be interesting but I'd say know how to use one, carry legally but if remote, I'd say sure. And I'm not some sort of gun freak. I know a guy that carries one every time he goes fishing in Alaska. For either 4 or 2 legged 'predators'.

1) When is the last time you heard of a "hungry coyote" , a notoriously timid animal, attacking a person or cyclist?

2) if you are really in a "remote" area - why would you expect to find a random wandering "meth-head" looking for cash??

William
I have a CWP and carry every day to work, at work, and back to the house.
I would have a greater problem not carrying a gun.

But as Big Willy says,ymmv

Having just completed a non-resident, multi-state CCW permit course let me just say this:

Be absolutely sure you are in full compliance with the area you will be in, especially if you will be crossing state lines and/or leaving your home state.

Also, be absolutely sure of the laws as they pertain to actually using your weapon for self defense, they vary from state to state.

In most cases, right or wrong, justified or not, if you discharge a firearm at someone, you will be handcuffed and arrested until the investigation is completed. That is what we were told in the class by Law Enforcement personnel.

If you discharge your weapon at a furry creature that is threatening you, you will probably still have to answer to fish & game authorities.

If you wave it around to scare off a perceived threat you can be charged with brandishing your firearm if you are mistaken.

The bottom line, be VERY careful if you carry, and be very sure of your situation.

Maybe a better choice. But again, be sure of local ordinances.

Beat me to it. Not a gun advocate or anti-gun, but the only time I'm ever comfortable with guns is in a controlled environment (like a shooting range), so I opt for pepper spray as well.
