Serotta "Fire (?) Sale"

This is weird...

Everything is discounted except Pronto and Fondo, and they went up.

http://serotta.com/get-the-serotta-o...a-lower-price/

Sez here they're making bikes...appears like another day at the office.

I have to admit, at least we're seeing something proactive and seemingly reasoned. We'll see where it goes. It beats Bill's hyperbolic 'just wait and see, something big is coming, just around the corner, any day now, you're gonna be surprised...' It's still Serotta without Serotta so I'm not interested but as a business venture I'm glad some people are keeping their jobs.

If you look at all the prices, they've ended all the new prices in hundred dollar increments. That meant for the fondo and pronto to round up $5. Just seems like a simpler and cheaper pricing ladder. A good move IMO.

How is a 20% reduction a fire sale? A little over dramatic but then that is par for the course when it comes to a Serotta discussion.

Still indicating F3 forks and I am sure the supplier would not mind the business so no big deal.

One of the shortest lead times in the industry and at a competitive price. THE COMPANY IS SAVED!

I thought this too upon looking at Phcollard's post. So my initial thought is that they decided to do away with real world pricing that the retail world has been so good at. I guess I am numb to this 19.99 or is it 19.95 scheme to get me to just spend a twenty spot. Yeah I want that product so bad I'll just chuck common sense by the wayside when my budget has me happy to buy the generic versions for roughly three dollars less. Just an example but you get the idea. I do agree about it being a simpler pricing means with whole dollar amounts, I'll add it's a bit more honest.

Im just curious if anyone would actually buy a bike frame from Serotta now that

1.) Ben doesnt work there any longer

2.) The company is in a state of flux-distress-change (or whatever you would like to call it)

3.) Ben Serotta is no longer a part of the Serotta Bike Company

Just askin'

Steve

I'm inclined to say right now, you're still getting a 'Serotta' -- still the same handful of craftsmen, still the same people building to the same geometries, fulfilling the same orders and dimensions the fitters are supplying on the SE models.

It's not like Ben was custom drafting the bikes, after all. The numbers come from the fitters, based on the software they've had for who knows how long.

I find it interesting that the MeiVici SE is gone, but then again, so is Poway. You've gotta figure they're limited to the stock of carbon they have on hand at the moment, while figuring out what to do with that.

Listen, my pronto kicks you-know-what. Built a week before the news or a week after, with the same hands running the operation, just not steering the ship, i think you're getting the same product. The people who signed the build sheet, with an actual pen, are still there. That's 'Serotta.'

The Meivici is at a nice price point now. Hope they can keep the remaing crew in Saratoga employed. Any word from Serotta dealers? What's the message from corporate to retail?

I haven't been, and likely will continue to not be, very vocal in the Serotta critique, however, I'm not sure this sentence is communicating what they want:

"We’ve dropped the MSRP by up to 20 percent on nearly every model."

It'd probably be better as:

"We’ve dropped the MSRP on nearly every model by up to 20 percent."

Cause there are seven models listed. Two with the same price. Two with -10% reductions, One with -14%... One at -16%, and one (the Meivici SG) that barely gets to -20%. one out of seven at -20% maybe doesn't make it to: "nearly every model."

It's being particular, sure, but the devil is in the details.

They're giving it a go and not throwing in the towel. I say good luck and acknowledge that the folks that made Serotta with Ben two months ago are making Serotta w/o Ben today.
