Hed Belgium rim and tire width

I was surprised, though not unhappy, that my Conti Grand Prix 4000s (23mm) measures nearly 26mm on a Hed Belgium rim at 90 psi.

My Open Pave CGs are 24.5 on a Kinlin xr270 and 26.5 on my C2s. I think +2mm is pretty common with the wider rims.

Oo, oo, oo, vernier calipers.

You don't see too many of those around these days. I took the less expensive route also: Plastic+ dial indicator.

Yep... I'm loving my HED Belgium rims. I have 23mm GP 4000s tires on all my road bikes. They ride and feel like bigger tires on the C2 rims. I run 10psi lower.

Does this have any effect on how well the tire stays on the rim?? Sounds like a significant change in the tire shape....

Tire shape/width is different but I've not experienced any problems with tire retention on the rim in two seasons. I like the wide rims so much, I'm converting all of our bikes to them.

No problems for me with Vittoria Open Corsa's in 23mm. Just have to open up the calipers a bit. Not sure about bigger tire sizes, though.

I haven't had any, but I was thinking you may lose a bit of mechanical advantage for panic stops.

I'm sure the folks in engineering and design at the 'big 3' are aware that not everyone is riding 19-20 mm rims nowadays...

I just ordered a set of A23 wheels and I'm hoping for the same results... you gotta love fat, cushy tires!

if you like 23mm conti gp4000s wait until you try the 25mm 4000s. i have been cycling for almost 50 years now (i hate to admit) and this combo is just so great. it's not the width so much (i don't see much difference) as the depth of the 25mm tires imho.
