Jeff, my apologies-- I was being sarcastic above. Jens' presence among those heavy hitters-- and heavy dopers-- suggests only two conclusions... A strong effort, yes, and strong "preparation," which belies his Colonel Klink in lyrca dumbkopf persona... Now he's flaunting it, abetted by Phil & Paul, Trek &...

... sound familiar?

I will say Trek's marketing of this is very clever, casual fans are paying attn as if Jens is actually attempting something "important" and "inspiring" but...

Its a no lose situation. he tries he gets it, he really retires.

The only advantage with sozenka is that jens has all the aero paraphernalia with him, but IMO that's it. That could be the only reason he could success but doubt could be for too much tho.

I mean, have you been to Scotland?

What makes you think the ballots are "counted" there any more than they are here?

harryblack - I agree with you about Jens, but at the end of the day, he's a professional sportsman, recognized that this was a soft target and that win or lose, he could get a lot of personal and sponsor publicity for the effort. Once a world-class rider tries it, that opportunity vanishes.

So I credit him with seeing the chance and jumping on it. What's the over-under on him keeping it? A month?

Personally I don't really care, but I hope JV succeeds just for the sake of the comments here on TPL.

Yes, I have, been to Australia also. The Scots care. Australia is 'pretty', ship pulled into Perth. I like Australia, love Scotland.

My Clan is up east of Loch Ness, beautiful country, friendly people but I think at the polls, Scots realize they are already a sovereign nation, but with many advantages of being aligned with GB. We'll see today, either way, about 50% of the Scots are going to be unhappy.

Too much water has passed under the bridge already to bring the clock back, Scotts are proud of being scotts and is understandable what they want. IMO the UK has more to lose than the scotts because a lot of dough is sitting up north.

What would be a surprise is if wales wants to get off the empire.

Was talking with a couple of spaniard friends and spain is looking at this situation really well, spain as the UK is a united kingdom too and this will present precedence big time in spain. Catalunya and bask country might want separate ways soon. Texas where are you? :P

Back to Jens' hour record attempt and Trek - It's all about marketing and brand promotion at the end of the day, capitalizing on his retirement. Better than social media for sure.

Wish they'd figure out the double-audio thing.... quality narration is going to be the only thing keeping me watching for another 50 minutes.

The audio is working fine now - it was really tough to listen to for awhile there.
