Wheelbuild Colour Recommendations
Hello Paceliners!
Long time lurker here in need of some advice. I'm getting a wheelset built up and having a hard time deciding on colours. They'll be built with 32H archetype rims laced to WI T11 hubs. My current considerations are: 1) Black rims, silver spokes, silver hubs 2) Black rims, silver spokes, black hubs I've attached a pic of my Eddy Merckx. It came that way when I bought it. I plan on replacing the seatpost with a silver one and putting the original 53T chainring back on. Also getting a new saddle with cromo/Ti rails. Everything else will remain as is. I'm essentially striving for a balanced look. I think all black wheels currently make things look too dark but worried silver might be too flashy. I know this is all personal preference but still interested in opinions/recommendations. I'm leaving all the technical stuff to my very capable wheelbuilder. Thank you!! |

Both would look good. I would go with black hubs on this bike.

I am currently building a extralite black front hub laced to Token C22 rim, black. My bike is a Colnago Titanium with lots of orange and yellow and bits or red. I am putting red spokes, just for fun. I would suggest silver spokes, to match your saddle and seatpost.

I would do either black rims, silver spokes, black hubs or gray ano rims, silver spokes and black hubs.
that bike however, either needs a blacks stem or a silver seatpost (I would go for the later, a nice nitto would look really good there) |

Definitely agree with the seapost. I have a nitto seatpost waiting to be put on once I get my new saddle.

Black hubs and rims, silver spokes...

I'm going to be the dissenting voice here and vote for silver hubs, for two reasons:
1. Once you put on a silver seatpost, you'll be changing the bike to a more "classic" look. Since you're set on silver spokes, you need silver hubs to go with everything else. 2. With very few exceptions, wheels look better when the spoke and hub colors match. |

Listen to the master. Cool bike too, btw.
He made me these and they are awesome. Fir rims, record hubs, silver spokes.

LOL! Gorgeous bike, and yes, a juxtaposed black and silver themed bike would be one of those exceptions...

Not to add to your decision, but what color nipples?
I would go with black nipples with black rims with either silver or black spokes. (and I would suggest brass, not alum for the nips). |

I was going to with silver nips either way. |

I have gray archetypes with record silver hubs on my bike and they look and ride great. From your two choices, I would go with blk/silver/blk. You likely won't be disappointed with either choice. Be warned that new wheels may make you want to change other things too...ask me how I know.

When I bought this bicycle a few years ago, I was planning to purchase a silver Athena 11 groupset to really give it that classic look. Unfortunately (fortunately for my wallet) I decided to be practical and use the more than adequate Record groupset and now Athena's been discontinued Any chance I could get a pic of your bike? |
