Danny Gatton and Buddy Emmons (with a superlative rhythm section): Redneck Jazz Explosion.

Just EXTRAORDINARY....

I just downloaded the Stones' Exile on Main St. this morning to listen to during my commute for the next few days (no bike commuting due to weather.) I justified the purchase because: It's supposed to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time, I've been really enjoying Keith's solo stuff recently, and Sticky Fingers which came out the year before, was a fantastic album, IMO.

I'm underwhelmed so far by both the production and the songs - almost annoyed, even. Can't stand the multi-tracking of Mick's voice and the Chuck Berry throwback material wears quickly.

Tumbling Dice is the lone standout so far, but I already knew that from growing up with FM radio.

I'm only 5 songs in, so hopefully it'll get better.

Went to a great live show in Austin last weekend by Greyhounds.

Their live album is great....incredible sounds from a trio of organ/guitar/drums.

If you dig this style of music, or at least appreciate it, you will love this. It's by Nitin Sawhney.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jJJHfL1yQA

Turn up the volume, and after opening the video, close your eyes right away and picture what the female singer looks like.

Then open your eyes after a minute or two...betcha do a double take.

Niki Wells is the vocals. Angelic voice.

Some serious, immensely talented musicians here. The bassist (Mohini Dey) is incredible, and still just a "kid."

Drummer reminds me of Jojo Mayer's style of play.

The intro to Moanin' was my ring tone for a couple years, several years ago. Love Mingus' Blues and Roots.

By my username, you can probably tell I'm a fan of Exile on Main Street. It might be an acquired taste compared to Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers, but I always loved the sprawling, primal, rock and roll and the "let's go stay in a farmhouse for a summer with a bunch of drugs and record an album" feel of it.

I owned that album shortly after it was released (1972) but I only just recently -- like, a week ago -- learned that it was recorded in 1969, during the sessions for the Stones' Let It Bleed album...ostensibly while waiting for Keith to show up.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of this Swiss instrumental band Sonar who I've described elsewhere as being the intersection set between Don Caballero and 1980s-era King Crimson, with a little Steve Reich thrown in:
