Thanks. I started looking at the amazon suggestions, too.
I found the watch I would like until I saw the price. The Omega Speedmaster X-33.
I will probably get a Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire if/when they go on sale.

If you like more dial clutter citizen has some nice offerings. Perpetual, chronos, some with digital.

Most digi ana combos I've seen are a cluttered mess.

Forgive me, for I know not of what I speak.

Basically, I know nothing about watches. However, I have a friend who knows a fair bit and has started his own company making watches (and other accessories) based on a classic automotive theme.

I know what I like and I dig the style of these... Probably because I'm crazy about classic cars.

Wow, I was familiar with their earlier offerings but I really like the group b. It's more than I can justify for a 3rd watch, but I really like it.

I kinda like the Stradale...BUT...

1) Too expensive for a watch with Miyota 9015 (lots of micros out there).

2) Don't dig the 18mm lug width.

3) Not that it really matters, but 5ATM is pretty low water resistance.

Anyone out there know any significant characteristics that would cause them to choose Seiko kinetic vs Seiko solar? The only obvious one that jumps out at me is that the kinetics tend to be pretty big, with a 45mm cases being very common. I'd like to stay closer to 42mm.

(I'd consider an automatic, but I already have an SKX007, which means one winder, and I think that's enough. I'm not enough of a watch geek to start building up a collection of winders too.)

TIA

Yeah, Bradley just released the Group B last week. I think it is my new favorite.

Kinetic has a much longer power reserve as a result of having the handwinding/auto winding of a good auto.

Just get a good auto with a handwind unless you really like the aesthetics of a kinetic.

Like above, I think it's a little expensive for the miyota. It is a good movement, but I don't feel it warrants the price. I've seen worse ways to spend money though.

I disagree. Most micros these days are Chinese cases, a few guys, and some Miyotas. Very unimpressive. Very little influence over design and specification because they're simply buying and assembling generic parts.

Autodromo has put more effort into their chrono movement, design, and fabrication. For the dollar I'd own one any day over many of the micro divers.

And lets be real, most of our kitchen sinks are not any deeper than 5ATM

Don't get me wrong, I think they are one of my favorite micros. If they dropped the group b product slightly, it would be very desirable. the 900-1000 price tier will buy you a lot of watch.

I don't get the big desire for 10atm+ watches outside of actual dive applications.

Edit for comparison...

Maratac SR-3 $330
Autodromo group b $925

Both use a case specific to the brand, both use the same movement, both have a sapphire crystal and both have similar straps. I like the group b a lot more, but for the same money, you could buy:
Two maratacs
Two Vostok amphibians
One Orient flight.

I want a group b but if I pull the trigger on a 9015 knock around watch, it's probably going to be a SR-3. This week, it comes with a bracelet and strap.
