Question Specs Translation Help / Pitted Headset

Hello. I have just learned what a pitted headset is and don't like it one bit and would like to fix it. I have a Scott Solace 10 Disc with Ritchey Headset. I called Scott and below (and attached) are the specs. What do all those numbers mean? After reading some reports I see that it is possible just replace the top and bottom bearings vs. a whole headset? Not sure if that applies for my set-up.

I am not sure what to google for when shopping for replacement parts.

Pro Logic Zero Road Drop in Taper/Thradless/28.7-41-46
H=9/45degrees/W/O Crown Race BLK AL W/Laser Etching Pro Logic

Thanks!

These specs below are for the UPPER bearing only.

28.7 is the bearing inner diameter in millimeters. It's for a 1 1/8" steerer tube.

41 is the bearing outer diameter in millimeters. It press fits into the head tube.

46 is the top cap outer diameter in millimeters.

H=9 is the height of the bearing in millimeters.

45 is the number of degrees of the outside angle of the bearing cartridge. The head tube must be machined to match this angle.

Why not save yourself some headaches and just order the exact replacements; Ritchey products are available at your local shop as well as on line.

Ritchey Comp Upper Bearing

Ritchey Comp Lower Bearing

Note that the lower bearing comes in 2 different sizes. Measure the existing bearing to see what you need.

And my tip for vastly increasing headset bearing life: Before each ride, pick your front wheel off the ground and rotate the handlebars from far left to far right, once or twice. This distributes the grease in the bearings, around the races. If not done, impact forces from riding push the grease film out from under the bearing, resulting in the pitted feeling you experience.

Thanks Peter! I am planning to order exact replacements--I was not able to figure out what exactly I need to look for, but now i do!
