I've ridden fully loaded doing bicycle camping but that's the extent of my heavy load experience unless you count a burly trailer with a couple of dogs in it.

I've also done the wood thing like seanile above but only had about a mile to go with it. RoK Straps off my moto to strap everything down did the trick.

If I were using my bike for groceries I'd probably use a trailer on my disc trucker. I致e never seen a 祖argo bike that ever made me want one.

This was a night, BTW. No lights, no helmets, probably no shoes...

Many years later cp43 (who is 6'5" and weighs about 220) rode me around the hallways of our mutual employer on the back of his Big Dummy. I'm 6'4" and 185 lbs.
I did carry TimD around the halls, I had forgotten about that. He's bigger for sure than a 40lb propane tank that was going to be my contribution to this thread. Less explosive though!

I also carried my wife home from the train station on the Big Dummy once. It was only two miles. She sat on the rack of the Big Dummy, and her luggage (I think for a 2 week business trip) went on either side.

For the record (not that anyone is keeping track) I'm "only" 6' 2.5"

lol, if I only had pictures to post. My largest capacity haul was carrying two 20+lbs cat litter bags on either rear panier, with bags filled atop of the rear rack (bags were not heavy though). The Target I purchased the items from sits on top of a set of descending rolling hills (~300ft descent total), but the 3mile ride home was sketchy with the heavy load wanting to guide my bike where it pleased without my consent.
