Big ring? Whatever. That is my small ring when I am climbing in the Alps.

All I could think of is the injuries that would be sustained by the rotors in the event of a crash.

People still use huge rings? I thought everyone had switched to an intermediate shaft setup. This is John Howard in 1985.

I did a Majorca tour a few years back with both John and Fred there at the same time...though they were both getting on in years, you could still feel the rivalry in the air!

Bike I worked on. Teammate's dad's bike. They regularly did a 20 hour ride to or from NH (from/to CT). The dad regularly did 40-50 miles in the area, and he was maybe 60 years old when he got the big rings. Got the rings through QBP. The 60T was out of stock so I got the 59T for the dad, who is a bit wacky. He rode TriSpokes as well until he got spooked at 55 mph on some mountain pass. I think I put a 45T inner ring on the bike but I don't remember. |
