Double duty wheels

This double-duty wheels article published on bikeradar caught my attention as it seems a very pragmatic ideal but I wonder does the rear hub fit a roadie with 130mm spacing and/or convert to fit other rear axle standards because if so it has some merits (that is if you are happy changing axle parts before going for a pedal). Thoughts?
