Mr. Pink and Fenders

Picked up an older-gen Mr. Pink a few weeks ago and am going to build it as my winter trainer, which means it needs fenders!

All-City says it can clear 28's with fenders.

the dilemma seems to be that most small metal fenders max out at 25c and the larger ones are just massive.

Have a set of the small PDW full metals on my commuter and they're super narrow.

The velo-orange smalls say they max out at 25c.

would really like to fit 28s if possible.

Any other recommendations to check out?

Cheers!

I've got a bike with similar clearance and have been tempted to try Handsom Mud Butlers.

had a mr pink for winter riding for a couple years. loved it. kinda wish I still had it, in fact...

anyway, I used planet bike cascadia road fenders for it. worked fantastically with 28mm tires on 23mm wide rims (so they were prolly over 28mm wide in reality). the fenders aren't as blingy or classic looking as metal fenders, but they worked great.

I would suggest picking up some sheldon nuts for it as well. they'll make taking fenders on/off quickly a breeze for one. but mainly, then you'll have your brake adjustment be independent of your fenders. http://problemsolversbike.com/produc...on_fender_nuts

+1...I've been using the same fenders with 28mm tubulars on Reflex rims for several years...no clearance or other issues.

I have SKS Chromoplastic P45s (they might not call them exactly that anymore) on an old Trek 520. They clear Compass Stampede Pass (32 wide), but not quite Schwalbe Kojaks (35 wide). I suspect the P35s would probably work with your 28s.

Depends on the 28....these should work on true to size 28 mm tires

I run 28 mm nominal Conti GP4 sii and Schwalbe Pro One tubeless that measure 31-32 mm actual. I use these fenders....

This is solid advice.

On a related note, I use 45mm VO hammered fenders with my 28s, and the fenders don't look too large. Just something to consider.

Yes! Was thinking those 37mm ones should be about perfect. Tires will either be 28mm gravel kings or 25mm GP4 sii (probably measures 28 or so).

Anyone have experience with the Velo Orange mud flaps? Or can recommend a good one?

VO mud flaps are too stiff for my liking.

I had PB Cascadia and VO fenders on my old Mr Pink, with 28s, they fit well and looked great.

I thought I had already responded to this.. I have the SKS Chromoplastic P45s as well for my All City Space Horse.. I think the clearance on the fenders depends on the frame design as well. I can clear 38s on my Space Horse with the P45s. I think the P35s (whatever their new name is) would probably be a good fit on the Mr. Pink.

With 38s if I get out of the saddle and hammer I can induce a little rub on my Space Horse unless I have the fender absolutely perfectly mounted and aligned. With 35s pretty much no problems.

Heh.. I get what people are saying about the Mr. Pink. My Space Horse is like an annoying dog that melts your heart when it looks at you and sticks its tongue out. A bike that is super pedestrian and yet so much fun. If I could ever just get a set of brakes that worked killer and didn't require constant maintenance I'd be in heaven with that bike.

Great! Was worried about clearance for the 45's but good to hear it's not an issue.
