Zonda G3 Wheelset
Hello all.
Zonda G3 Wheelset Is this wheel set suitable for ascending and descending alpine mountain terrain on road? I know there are other more expensive wheels that are lighter and more suited. How do these compare to the C24's (besides weight)? Just trying to maximise my bank for buck at this stage.... Splash Last edited by Splash; 09-30-2016 at 06:55 AM. |

The general consensus around here seems to be that in the bang for buck category they are outstanding. As for your other specific questions I have no idea but I have a set and have found them to be a great all round wheelset.

They're not the lightest, but unless you're racing over those mountains it probably won't make a difference. Beyond that they're a great wheel for the money with an aluminum brake track and steel spokes...seems like a very good option for the roads you're describing.

I think they are the best all around wheel set you can buy for anywhere close to same money. And....my local wheel builder (who doesn't normally like out of the box wheels) says she can repair them with generic spokes she keeps in stock....if necessary. I know a guy who recently wrecked his bike with Zonda's.....busted a rear spoke....she had him on the road next day.....then ordered some Campy specific steel spokes. When I am away from home....I like to use wheels I can get repaired at any good shop. Not wanting to sit around a hotel room for 3-4 days waiting for special order spokes to arrive at a local shop.

Yes....she's very exceptional. She can cut and thread special need spokes as well.
She has a business building hi wheelers also. Builds almost every part herself. http://www.victorybicycles.com/ Last edited by Ralph; 09-30-2016 at 06:51 AM. |

Thanks guys.
Wanting to acquire a set of alloy wheels for mountain climbs. These Zondas appeal, but they don't seem light? Would they be light enough? Why are they much cheaper than the C24's? Would 23mm tires be OK for these Zonda's G3 wheel set? Splash Last edited by Splash; 09-30-2016 at 06:57 AM. |

They look like just black straight pull spokes..nothing exotic..if she has a spoke cutter/threader..

A search for Zonda on here will bring up a pile of threads that should give you a pile of info and opinions. 23's fit on there with no problems. Great wheels for the price.

correct. zondas are nearly indestructible - believe me i tried. road, dirt, race, etc. They rarely go untrue and spin forever. am no longer a campy rider (long horrible story), but campy wheels are on the amazing side of things.

Thanks guys.
Would these wheels be your preferred budget goto climbing wheels over the C24's? Also, I note the latest variant of the ZOnda is the 'C17' model with the wider rims: http://www.campagnolo.com/AU/en/Wheels/wheel_zonda Would the previous G3 model improve climbing performance be better or would the 'C17' model be better for improving climbing performance? What size tire (23 or 25mm) would be better when using these wheels for climbing? Splash |
