Great. Now I have a new song to run through my head as I search for a mental metronome to turn the pedals over on the long climbs.

Damn, so tempted to pull the trigger on the 180k.
Is anyone living around Montpelier, VT area doing this? I'd be willing to drive down the night before but would want to drive back day of ride after finishing and eating dinner, as I have two small kids, and 2 nights away from family is kinda tough right now. Could split the ride back as legs cramp, etc. |

Totally psyched about this year as well. Of course, I have to start upping my rides to more than 15 miles, though. Switched over to the mystery ride a few days ago and am looking forward to it.

Ok it's "official", I am coming back this year.
After taking a 2-year break (2014, 2015), I am coming back to do the D2R2 ride again this year. I wasn't sure if I was gonna make it at first because of family commitments but thanks to BBdave and Angry pals' persistence and not giving up on me, I finally managed to work something out with the family.
So, I will be flying out to Albany from Austin on Wed, Aug. 17th, arriving around noon and leaving on Tuesday Aug. 23rd early morning. Tentative Schedule Wed Aug 17 Transit Arrive at Albany, NY Put my bike together, go for a shakedown ride in the afternoon, hang out and have dinner with BBDave Thur Aug. 18 - nothing planned yet. Friday Aug 19 Camp at Deerfield the night before D2R2 The only thing kinda written down for Friday is, I am volunteering in the afternoon starting at 4, at the sign-in booth and registration, packet Saturday Aug 20 D2R2 Ride - I have signed up for the 100k like I did the last time in 2013. If my form is good, I might consider upping the distance. But I found 100k to be "just the right distance" for me, in terms of leaving something in the tank to enjoy the rest of the day. Sunday Aug 21 BBdave suggested this: To everybody, this year the Lake George Bike-Boat ride is on Sunday the 21st if you are interested in doing it. You meet at the pier in Lake George at 7am, and put a bag with a change of clothes on the steamboat Mohican. Then you ride north for 41 miles along the lake shore to the municipal pier in Fort Ticonderoga, where the Mohican picks you up at 11am. There's a food bar and wet bar on the boat, and you just wheel your bike right onto the foredeck, change clothes, and settle in for the 2.5 hour cruise back down the lake. Cost is $26 for the boat ride and $5 for your bike, and the local bike club gets $3 of that. Obviously, it's a limited capacity event to however many bikes they can fit on the boat. Monday Aug 22 - Presumably back in Albany - nothing planned yet Tuesday Aug 23 - Return to Austin, early flight out of Albany. I will be interested in hearing suggestions on what to do with those days that are currently open or don't have a whole lot going on. Even better, get together with another forum pal to go do something fun - hiking, riding, exploring, whatever. I can't wait! Looking forward to meet other forum pals who are going to be there. Some of the pictures taken back in 2013, some by BBdave, some by me. |
