Maybe I'm pointing out the obvious but although the sled dogs love to run, they don't want to do it to the point of death and utter exhaustion. You may say that only a few dogs die each year, but if those percentages held in any human race, we wouldn't be doing it. Doping is peripheral here.
We've romanticized it, but the race is just as barbaric as greyhound racing. I adopted a 4 year-old and trust me, he had no desire to do much besides chill on the couch.
