I've noticed that speakers, rather than ear buds, are gaining in popularity for cyclists.

Is that what the respondants to this thread are using?
We should avoid this discussion. It's like politics, and there are always people who do things that are not in their own best interests irrespective of obvious and inevitable consequences.

Assume we're talking about listening to music at the times when you normally would listen to music.

I just used wired earbuds plugged into my iPhone back then, but I'd definitely go bluetooth nowadays. Tech has gotten really good

As the OP, I was on the computer when I asked what you were listening to, however I do listen while riding as well. Many of my rides are solo, so it helps with boredom. I use a bone conduction headphone, Trekz Titanium, which doesn't block external sound, unless it's playing really loud. They really do work well for most all sports activities I'm involved in and I can hear approaching snowboarders, traffic, and conversation. An added bonus is I can accept and initiate voice calls hands free.

I've got a background in audio engineering. So some days I listen to the recording and you've caught me on one of those days - plus I just got some new sweet in-ear monitors! 35 years later a few of these tunes are still good. Underrated songwriter, actually.

Elliot Smith - Either/Or
Just a great rainy late winter album. I miss Elliot Smith.
I will check out Elliot smith.

Man Billy Joel killed it with this one. And right now I am listing to “I don’t care anymore” the remastered versions. Wow

Thanks for the suggestions. I am exploring Tidal (a streaming music player) and adding these.
