Just downloaded Spotify and am loving the channel "This is: Johnny Cash." Some real gems. I'd never heard "A Boy Named Sue." Funny story!

My most recent discovery (and subsequent immerse-myself-in-their-music orgy) was The Pineapple Thief, a British post-prog rock band who've been recording for the past ~15 years. Very reminiscent of Porcupine Tree, with shades of Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins thrown in

...but better than that description might suggest.

Ha! I literally finished listening to that Tiny Desk Concert fifteen minutes ago! Fun stuff.

I've also been listening to a lot of oud recently. In particular, my good friend Hadi Eldebek and music by his mentor, Simon Shaheen, especially the album Blue Flame.

It's either a Whyte Laydie No 2, or a Tubaphone #3 (circa 1918-1923 - I'd have to get a better look to tell the difference). Both have the nickel-silver band around the pot. I've owned one of each a while ago - one stolen, the other sold....

It's Son Volt, Ryan Adams, the Old 97s, and Nikki Lane. -- all have had albums drop in the few weeks.

Matt Flinner Trio: Winter Harvest

These guys own the intersection between "modern string band" and acoustic jazz.

I stumbled on this artist whose name is Viktoriya Yermolyeva, and has a youtube channel under the name vkgoeswild. She's an amazing pianist with a hard core bent. She has an eclectic mix of classic rock, punk, and metal covers, as well as a few original scores. I keep revisiting this internet wormhole. Either check out her youtube page (https://www.youtube.com/user/vkgoeswild/videos) with lots of videos or check out her website http://vkgoeswild.com/ with fewer videos but more info.
