Warm Showers - For Road-Weary Cyclists, a Room, a Couch, Maybe Even a Meal.
Never heard of this before, interesting concept:
NYT: For Road-Weary Cyclists, a Room, a Couch, Maybe Even a Meal. Oregon had never seemed so nasty. For two long days in 2013, I had bicycled south with two intrepid college friends along its coast, into a relentless gale, the rainy headwinds leaving us exhausted, our flat tires as frequent as East Coast potholes. Now we sat soaked on the side of a piney road, in the middle of nowhere, with no place to stay. |

I think it's more common in Europe? Although I think I first heard of it back in 2013 when I was living in the US. I've used it in both Europe and the US and met lots of great people and only a few awkward situations (but those people were still nice and polite).

We've been Warm Showers hosts for about 4 years and offer our place to tourers for a break or overnights.

I was a host when I lived in North Carolina. My place was just off of the route up/down the Outer Banks on US 70.
Hosted many folks and it was always great. Followed several on their journeys up and down the eastern seaboard and others across the country. Still keep in touch with others. I'd do it in CA, but we are no where near any bike route of note. |

warmshowers
we've been warmshowers hosts for a few years now, probably 5. we're north of seattle. we've had some wonderful guests, folks going on absolutely incredible bike adventures. many are way beyond touring or trips. every one has been a good experience.
i've stayed with a couple of ws hosts when i'm riding around, but we mostly host. i wholeheartedly recommend becoming a warmshowers host. drew 'tired of the caps key' ellison |

Great Group
I have been a host for 5 years, and if could not host, sent a traveler to different lodging option.

Lots of hosts in my neighborhood. We're often the last US stop for southbound Pacific Coast tourers who are crossing the border. Highly recommended.

I started out about 25 years ago on the Touring Cyclists' Hospitality Directory, or whatever its name was. That was a one man operation loosely affiliated with Adventure Cycling I think. He published a little booklet with names and addresses of hosts, which you carried around with you in pre-internet days. Making contact was sketchy at best.
I'd guess over half the touring cyclists I've met have been from other countries, including Canada, UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and China. A couple have been on trips lasting 1-2 years, cycling through places I wouldn't even want to drive through. |

Have been both host and guest a number of times since 2013. All have been great experiences.
