reynolds gurus - question

i understand the performance 'exclusive' wheels by reynolds are just relabeled versions of perhaps last years rims or whatnot.
any idea on which these would be? they seem fairly current and equivalent to the reynolds attack in terms of rim dimensions. dunno
do they perhaps use different hubs??

looking at these

vs these

Performance went there and told them... I want like 1000 sets of wheels with such and such characteristics and i dont want to pay more than 100 bucks per set.. are you in?

Reynolds said... I'm IN!!! then they did as much as possible to what they needed, well could be the hubs. well could be the spokes, even the box can be mod to serve the purpose.

One thing off the top of the list is that the reynolds specific link you posted is for a disc brake set of wheels.
Link to rim brake version

I would guess that your assumption is probably fairly accurate on the rims being the same. The MSRP on the non-disc ones and the Suggested on the Performance option are pretty much the same. (1600 vs. 1599).

That's what I pick up on right away. but the hubs are still different between the two rim brake sets.

the PB wheels are indeed 2016 reynolds attack rims, they appear to be the non-tubeless version (as the word "tubeless" appears exactly nowhere on that page).

they look to be using some lower-tier hubs as well.

nice wheels, but definitely a step-behind the "industry trends."

yeah, caught that and edited the link to the rim version.

i'm seeing different hubs too, but can't find much info on what each uses. methinks it's older stuff reynolds wants to get rid of. thought they used dt hubs, but i guess not
not sure how they're getting the same published weight however.....

they havent used DT-made hubs since like...2012/13.

they may have squeaked in some DT internals in some of their higher end stuff since then but for the most part they have been asian-sourced or reynolds-designed asian-manufactured hubs on most (if not all) of their wheels for the past 5 years.

the PB wheels are 150% NOT DT hubs, not even close.
they are something cheap/reynolds/asian-produced (nothing wrong with this! to be clear...)
that said, they are probably perfectly functional, just not the nicest/lightest stuff on the shelf.

On some version of Reynolds wheels they use hubs with DT internals. On others, they are Reynolds specific. I think next year they are going I9 on a lot of their wheelsets.

Definitely lower price point hubs on the Performance set..

Something I don't get. Using a 20/24 DT350 hubset and a variety of 'asian' sourced carbon clincher rims(like the ones from 'offtgefrontracing', it's really easy to get the $1000 price point. Not sure what makes these a 'normal' $1600....

typical retail psychology - they have to make MSRP something absurd so people feel like they are getting a "sweet deal" at $1k...which is what reynolds had actually planned to sell them for all along...
