Big Bad "S".......at it again

Specialized has just announced to all dealers that those shops that sell Specialized and Cannondale are eligible for an additional 5% on all Specialized sales if they stop selling Cannondale and cut ties with the brand. Not Trek, not Giant, not BMC or Cervelo............just C'dale.

Guess someone in particular has been cutting into their market share...... hence the release of the "ground breaking" new Al Allez........

If this bothers you, then you will need to start boycotting a lot of companies. Conquest missions are pretty standard fare. They are not forcing the dealer to do anything.

This was dated 2012.

I thought we had a Specialized bashing a few months ago.

You will need to quit using a lawn mower, driving a car, utilizing utilities installed by industrial equipment or eating food that was planted/harvested with equipment.

Interesting find. I heard it this morning from my Cdale rep so not sure if it's been reinstated or the ante has been upped but it's caught Cdale's attention and is affecting market strategies at moment.

Stuff like this has been in play for years. In the old days, it used to be something like 50% of the bikes on display/floor needed to be Schwinn, if you were a dealer.

I have to confess, their BG gloves are my favorite. Kinda ruins any idea of 100% boycotting them. Oh, and I bought a spesh helmet recently cuz it was all my LBS had and it felt good on my head. but I like the thought

pretty sure trek does this at even a higher percentage. This seems more like active coercion than specialized offering to pay their dealers more if they drop a competitor. It doesn't sound like there is any penalty for saying no. It's really not far from a spiff used countless industries.

If the LBS thinks they can make more money by dropping cdale for an extra 5% on spec sales, more power to them. If not, it's business as usual.

Gotta say, having worked in various retail stores - albeit none bike related - 5% is less than most military and/or senior discounts and nothing when you are typically operating on 50%+. Not much of an incentive imho
