OT: Amazon to Buy Whole Foods
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/16/b...ole-foods.html
How soon before I can get kale and free-range eggs delivered to my apartment by drone? https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/16/b...-reaction.html “Jeffrey, Based on your recent purchase, you may also be interested in: - Wegmans - Trader Joe’s - Kroger”

Worth a listen. John's story is an interesting one. I don't know what this means for the ethos of the company, but it seems from the podcast that there's been tension at the top for a long time.. I hope Whole Foods sticks around and improves to some extent. We have plenty of other options in Portland (from food co-ops to an outstanding local B-Corp grocery chain). When I'm on the road though, WF is about the only place I can really depend on to get my health-food "needs" met - well, that and Chipotle.. Last edited by Clean39T; 06-16-2017 at 01:45 PM. |

The first article didnt mention Amazon delivering whole foods products but rather Amazon wanting to enter the brick and mortar game

There are lots of organic food and produce home delivery companies already. Whole foods already has their own called instacart

smart move. whole foods already dealt with the nightmare of rolling out a national physical footprint for retail settings in key markets. that saved amazon years of agita, and puts them smack dab where they want to be.

Drone organic drop deliveries . . . mini parachutes in the sky with bananas attached . . . my vision of the future . . .

Sweet. Even more reason to avoid amazon. I will pass on $6.0 pre-peeled orange.
PCC, Met market and Trader's will thrive. Bring it on. |

The funny (or not so funny) truth is that some people bought these $6.00 oranges!

Brilliant move!
One of the few acquisitions that actually make sense in recent years....

It could be that part of Amazon's rationale in making the acquisition is to put an end to Google's delivery services for Whole Foods.

Does this mean I'll get 5% back if I use my Amazon card?

That said, I'm sure most people who buy them are not so impaired, just have more money than time, or something. |

Buddy is strategic consultant to WalMart. Says they saw this coming in the battle of the titans. He said in a decade, it'll only be WM and Amazon remaining. Everyone in between is toast. Today's crash in big box retailers with groceries seems to bear this out. Last edited by mistermo; 06-16-2017 at 02:55 PM. |
