[solved] Recommendations for "loose" 700x25c.
After nearly destroying my hands and forearms, and ripping three tubes in the process, I've given up trying to mount Vittoria Open Pave CG III tires on my Neutron Ultra wheels.
Any recommendations for similar quality tires that tend to not come under-sized from the factory? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Campagnolo wheels are known to be tight.
In my expierence Veloflex are easier to mount. |

Conti GP4000 II
I can usually put GP4000 II on by hand-

Yeah this was ridiculous - I've never had to use two levers just to get the first side on! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Vittorias will lossen a bit over time but the GP4000 II's are easy to mount on most rims.

Did you try throwing them in the dryer?

Maybe tubeless or Two way fit. But I can put about any tire on my old style Zonda's with fingers.

Is that typical for the Vittorias then? I couldn't imagine trying to deal w these on the side of the road, even if they did loosen a bit.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Clement strada lgg wheels fit on my Campagnolo Eurus wheels nicely. They are even the steel spoke version that is known for being tough to mount.
If you are interested in a tan set, I may have a slightly used pair. The Clements are a "cheap" tire that rides better than the thread count leads on. |

All this based on the ones I've tried. Who knows how consistent they all are. |

As others here have stated the neutron ultras can be difficult to get tires mounted on. I had a helluva time getting my veloflex on when mine arrived.
I figured vittorias would've been easier to mount. Try stretching or warming the tires a bit. They are a great set of wheels once you get the tires mounted. |

Been there, done that. I understand the newest Campy rims are not quite so tight... which goes along with sales guy's experience.
But for Campy clincher rims: I've had some luck with the combo of pre-stretching the tires first on some looser rims for a day or two, then using some heat (dryer or sun) and a tire jack. See below. Fortunately changes on the road go much easier once the tires have been stretched.

Does warming and stretching give a permanent solution though? I got big man hands and used plastic coated steel levers (Soma), I had to start using levers at 10 and 2 with the bead pretty much straight across at that point...and it's impossible to get a tube up in there in that circumstance. And of course I was working the opposite side from the valve stem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, they will stretch and stay stretched.
Yes, warming them in the dryer (stinky) or in the sun will make them easier to work with. Imstalling them on an easier set of rims (e.g. not deep aero) at full pressure for a few days will make them easier to work with. |
