Believe Campy supplies all double groups that have 50-34 and 12-29 with a short cage.

Is there a trick to getting the correct tension on the spring that runs from the derailleur body to the derailleur cage, such that the cage sits in the right position?

No trick, just the same hole it comes out of. Spring in holes, wind up the cage some, tighten bolt.

Another data point:
I am using a Potenza 11/32 (or 12/32) cassette with everything else Chorus. Works like a charm. Chorus rear der is just fine. |

Just a little interim report that the combo of 2016 Campag Record plus Potenza RD and 11-32 cassette works perfectly so far. Will report back as I get more miles.

Short? Medium?
I see that the group has both short & medium cage RD. To use the 32, do you need to use the medium cage? Tempted to grab this for my travel bike.

I'm using the mid-cage Potenza RD with the 32 in a group that is otherwise all Record and it's working fine. There have been a few reports that even the Record RD will handle the 32 but I have not tried it.

I've never cared for the look of mid/long cages, so I was hoping that the short would somehow handle the 32.

Well, it WILL if you make the chain too short..that will rotate the upper pulley away from the larger(lower gear) cogs but you try to go big-big and kaboom..

Sort of what I thought. Oh well. I just won't look back there.

Or... maybe make your RD go into the spokes.

Sooo...
Looks like I should be able to run a Campy Chorus RD with stock cage using a Campy CX crankset 46-36 with an 11-32t cassette? If a Chorus RD works fine with a compact 50-34 with 11-32 cassette, then I should be golden? Thanks! |
