Just out of curiosity, how do they figure out exactly how far you've ridden in the hour? I assume they'd want a number that at least within 10 meters, if not better.
A bunch of cameras positioned around the track? In that case what do they assume for the distance around the track? Or does the bike itself measure the distance? |

The rider finishes whatever lap he/she is on when time is up. Then the final lap total time is used to calculate how far was completed within the hour and added to the distance of the preciously completed laps distance.

So it certainly behooves oneself to stay as close to the line as possible to not rack up extra distance that doesn't count toward your total if it is by a "standard lap distance" rather than actual distance traveled - which will certainly play into the skill of the effort.
