first turned away from the sport a few years ago as i didn't have a TV
then i got into cycling and started following pro cycling instead

the real kickers came when i realized a) the whole brain trauma issue and b) how much subsidy many teams enjoy all the while basic city needs are not met. The state of Pennsylvania, Philly, and Pittsburgh together took out a loan worth $1 Billion to finance the new stadiums. That is just effing noxious when you have a city like Philly that's struggling to make ends meet.

Me too, though it's somewhat of a contrived event. I'd rather see the worlds.

Spent a futile evening trying to get exhaust manifold bolts started, and playing with a Lab who drew blood. ALMOST wish I'd been watching football.

Texas Rangers? These threads are always interesting. A couple of thousand answers about Tom Brady...a bunch here about football, more about the commercials and an astronaut and a german car company morphing into Nazi and Soviet scientists..still more about the game and then the $ and how Pittsburgh is suffering..And how great/poor/boring/useless/head damaging football...etc..shows the diversity of the group here, IMHO.

Quite true, "Bread and Circuses" for the masses while others line their pockets.

I figured that was more MMA vs football. ...or maybe I'm confused and MMA is more like the Roman Coliseum.

I get so confused why all these people *watch* all these sports instead of actually going out and *playing* them

I'm not a football fan, but I AM a Patriots fan. Same with baseball; I don't obsessively follow the league(s), but I'll watch the Red Sox when I can. For me it's a way to hang on to my Boston upbringing here in western VT where there are too many NY fans for my comfort. ; )

That said, I watched the game. Partly because I enjoy the Brady/Manning rivalry and enjoy watching Manning play, and partly because it was an excuse to take a waiver from my recently adopted monastic existence and eat nachos.

There's no reason 60 minutes of football should take 4 hours, though. Super Bowl or not.

I'm a lot more excited for Classics season to start than I was for the S.B....

i "watch" exactly one football game a year - the superbowl. We have a bunch of people over, and it's really an excuse to cook fantastic appetizer finger foods much more than about the game for us.

as usual, i am reminded of how much i dislike the game of football. just not enough action for me, it's seconds of play followed by many minutes of inactivity on the field. to be honest, i don't even understand all of the rules, and the game just cant hold my attention: i cant force myself to care.

even the commercials this year, i thought were worse than other years.

edit: the food was good though!
