Here we go. Pretty much saw this coming.
Bah...more sensationalism and speculation.

"EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy told reporters that the two sides were in "really robust" ongoing talks but said she did not know if they would agree to a deal by April 21. "

Sounds a lot like union contract negotiations...we don't know if we will reach an agreement before the strike deadline, but we continue talking....

VW admitted guilt. That part is easy. They are stalling to minimize damage, pure and simple.

Anyone else notice that the FTC suit is now under Judge Breyer as of today? So now all actions, the civil class action, the CARB/EPA environmental damage, and now the FTC consumer fraud suit, are all in the same court under the same judge. The pressure on VW keeps increasing.

48mpg down to Jersey City today, and I hit some traffic.

On a related note...

Mitsubishi has admitted to falsifying mileage an emission numbers for several of their vehicles. It's not currently known if any of the models were sold in the US. The internal investigation is continuing and the EPA is paying attention.

That's the beauty of this. There is no fix. Organically they will disappear.

Seems like it's an offer hoping to settle FTC and CAS matters. EPA/CARB and the public they represent still need a cut.

Fingers crossed. Cash sounds grand, but I've been sitting on a car for 6 months that I planned to sell. I'm more concerned about my ability to trade or sell it before it is subject to more routine maintenance. I've managed to get through this time without any dents, dings, or curb rash...like all, I'm really hoping for a resolution soon.

If that's the solution I couldn't possibly be happier.
