Route Questions About Oregon's Painted Hills
My wife and I are planning on riding this in late May http://rideoregonride.com/road-route...cenic-bikeway/
We have some route questions for anyone that has done this. Any veterans of this very beautiful and challenging ride? Pat Mc |

Have you contacted the Cycle Oregon folks? I'm pretty sure that ride goes through that area every few years.

I am very interested in what you learn. If you would, please share what you learn.

I haven't done this whole route but have done the lollypop that starts in Mitchell, goes to Service Creek, then Shelton Wayside, then back down Rowe Creek/Twickenham. I really want to go back. Lemme know if you have any questions.

Painted Hills
The riding looks awesome. If anyone else has feedback, please share.
Another ride to consider is the ochoco roubaix gravel ride. I haven't done it but am considering signing up. |

I'd be interested in making it a "Paceline" outing if others wanted to pull a group together for it..

I rode the Oregon Blue Mountains 1000k in 2010. We traversed this section on day 2 IIRC. Spectacular area!
You might try looking up that route and contacting the organizer for local beta. |

Here are some shots from when I rode over there. It really is a beautiful area. Quite remote. You could really have an awesome gravel road adventure around there too. I'd really like to do that. Again, let me know if you have any specific questions, I am happy to help if I can.
Start of the descent to Service Creek from the south. Twickenham Rd Climbing back up Twickenham/Girds Creek towards the Service Creek Mitchell Hwy

I haven't ridden out there, but would really like to do some bikecamping. Every year I tell myself it might happen, but every year it fails to materialize. I'd also be interested if this turns into a Paceline event.

OP here and my apologies for posting a question and then disappearing for a few days. But thanks for all of the responses.
My wife and I have laid on an itinerary, where we start in Fossil, staying the first night at the Wilson Ranch and then cycling to Mitchell via Rowe Creek/Twickenham. We will stay the night in Mitchell and then head back up to Fossil via 207. My question is: should we drive back down on our third day and ride the Service Creek to Kimberly out and back? How does the scenery compare to the Fossil to Mitchell loop? We have done a fair amount of riding in eastern Oregon and did the Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway (http://rideoregonride.com/road-route...cenic-bikeway/) which was a great ride. We are looking for another scenic low traffic ride in the Painted Hills. |

Unfortunately I can't really help with that one. I haven't ridden (or driven) that section of road. Looking at the google street view I'd say it's a touch less scenic than Fossil/Mitchell; mostly because it's flat. But, it's still a nice scenic ride in remote/quiet central Oregon, so I say go for it!
