Kid bike advice.

Hola!

My son started racing (albeit the kid races) cyclocross this year! He's currently using my wife's old BMX bike (she used to race in the pro girls class). Next season he will be racing the full course and will need gears.

He's one of the biggest 8 year olds you'll meet. 4'10" and 105 lbs!

I've settled on a 26" wheeled MTB after him sitting on a CO-OP Dirt 1.0 27.5" wheel at REI and it being way too big also he was tooling around at a race on another kids 24" MTB and it would only fit him for the rest of this year.

So I've been trying to track down an older 14" Kona Lana'i, a 13" Trek 3700 or a Giant Revel or even a Specialized HotRock as a last resort. Haha! But all the adds I see are either old/sold or they want too much.

You see we just took a $100k/ year pay cut for my wife to do her resedency but the kids still growing like a weed so I'm looking to spend <$150.

Any input on kids sizing or models of similar bike or if you have a bike you'd like to sell

Keep an eye out for a Redline Conquest 24. My son rode one when he was about 8, also was a big kid (still is, now 6’4 195#) . I got it for him to ride fast on the road and to be able to take on the dirt. He raced a duathlon and smoked the other kids because they were on mtb’s!
