Charm City Cross race photography

Here is my 2017 Charm City Cross - Day 1 gallery:

https://kitestringstudio.smugmug.com...Cross-C1-2017/

It is also published on GRIT.CX; a British #Cyclocross magazine:
http://grit.cx/magazine/2017/10/char...s-2017-gallery
It is behind a subscriber wall, but the small cost/ month is well worth the content (at least for one month).

Can also see a few of the images here: https://www.instagram.com/erikannis/

Also see my “The Big Picture” photo set on CXHairs.com recapping last year's 2016 Charm City Cross race.

There's a story in Velonews about Kris Auer, the guy who started Charm City CX. Worth a read.

A bit of a personal connection for me, as well. I used to live not 5 miles from his then-bike shop, Twenty20 Cycling. They had a Wednesday night ride that was absolutely a killer, 30 miles over some hilly stuff with 3 sprints. That ride got up to an average of 19 miles an hour in the summer. Yep, 19. I didn't feel like I'd fit in with the Twenty20 team, felt like a bit too serious for me, but I'd always show up at that ride.

Anyway, that ride transitioned to the CX skills clinic mentioned in the VN article. Auer really broke the basics down into a nice series of skills for the community. I really benefitted from that; I never had anything like that when I started racing CX. I'd just jumped right in and developed some bad habits. Many of which I was able to kill thanks to that clinic.

Anyway, Charm City CX was a blast too. In 2012, I think I finished in the bottom third of the men's 4/5 race. In 2013, I had a cold for the entire week and had just barely recovered by Saturday. I did Ok on Saturday, and Sunday was a pretty good race.

There are few things I miss about Baltimore. But the team I wound up with, the Baltimore Bike Works team, and the Twenty20 gang and all they did for the sport around here ... those are two things I definitely miss.

Can vouch for the comments made above, live not more than 4 blocks from BBWs shop and about a mile from 20/20 shop. Both are class acts! Have known Chris Auer for over 15 years, used to race together when he rode for LSV. Wednesday night rides are superb, lots of new faces weekly, no poseuresque attitudes, all are welcome, regrouping after the sprints. Everyone obeys traffic signals, proper eticate is maintained for single line and pacing. To this day 20/20 holds weekly cross “training” rides, where the training is done in a clinic like atmosphere; drilling cornering, dismountin/mounting, tire pressure, etc... Balt may have a stinging reputation, but there is plenty to be grateful for as well!
