WHOA!
I'm surprised and very sorry to hear this. This somehow seems particularly symbolic to me for reasons that I can't quite put my finger on..... RIP.....

I love this version of Blue Sky with a Franklin's Tower intro.

Wow I could write volumes about the ABB. Grew up listening to their tunes. Still play them on spotify. Loved loved loved their style. Sad to hear about Dickey; and they are sort of the Kennedy's of southern bands with streaks of bad luck/misfortune. Thanks to digital media for preserving these and other sounds forever. RIP.

Bummer.
B & S was a fave. (We were just in Atlanta, and every time we passed a highway 41 sign, I’d sing that line from RM to the missus.)

After reading a pretty detailed obit, I think Dickie and Gregg were no angels.
Loved them both. |

First job out of college (late 90's in Atlanta) I got paired up with an old engineer who grew up in Jacksonville, had connections to ABB and was a massive fan. I knew their music, but didn't REALLY know their music. He would schedule "meetings" for us in his office and we'd sit and listen to every ABB album we could get our hands on for hours. Still partial to the Ludlow Garage albums. Then we'd go for lunch at the Rusty Nail on Buford Hwy, which was a known haunt of Gregg's. Never saw him, but always looked...it was always "he was here yesterday...."
Both Dickey and Duane brought their own unique soul to ABB, so while I'm ultimately more of a Sky Dog fan, I respect that after his death ABB wouldn't have had the longevity they did without Dickey. He took the job of two guitarists and ultimately made them one. He also wrote some of their greatest songs. Still remember exactly where I was when I heard Gregg died (sitting in a hotel in London on a missed connection to Joburg....sad day). Good reason to put on my ABB playlist while I fly back across the country today....god speed Mr. Blue Sky.

I thought it was interesting how he titled In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. (He had an encounter with a young lady (later ID’ed as Boz Scagg’s wife) on Ms. Reed’s grave.)
