Padded cycling socks

I've always worn the thinnest cycling socks I could. I have developed a plantar fibroma though that is giving me some trouble and I think that a thicker sock will be less irritating. Any suggestions?

About any sports store such as Sports Authority, Dicks, etc, carries many many brands of cycling suitable thicker socks in blends that include combinations of durable synthetic and wool. Not very expensive either. I don't have feet problems, but wear a thicker short sock for cycling. Find it more comfortable, especially on longer rides.

I would like something like a running sock (which I may end up using) that has padding on the bottom only.

I had this problem a couple of years ago and I did two things:

1. I bought a set up relatively cheap sole inserts on the recommendation of a friend. I wear them in my cycling shoes as well as my everyday shoes.

2. I started wearing wool socks year-round. I wear Defeet Woolie Boolies. I thought that they might be miserable in the summer but I don't notice a difference. I do wear some that are more threadbare in the hotter months as they are slightly thinner, though.

I've had no trouble since.

Take a look at the Thorlo web site for some ideas. I've been using their light and medium thick stuff for years.
